Phillip Brooks
Vice President of Technology
Phillip Brooks was named Vice President of Technology in September 2025.
Phillip is a seasoned broadcast engineering leader with more than two decades of experience guiding television operations, technology strategy, and large-scale infrastructure projects across multiple markets. Known for combining hands-on technical expertise with a strong people-first leadership philosophy, Phillip has built a distinguished career transforming engineering teams, modernizing broadcast systems, and championing innovative workflows that elevate both linear and digital media production.
Phillip began his career in Kansas City at KSHB-TV, literally sweeping floors and operating studio cameras as he learned every aspect of broadcast production. His early years were marked by relentless curiosity, a willingness to take on any task, and a deep appreciation for learning from seasoned engineers. After overcoming a yearlong battle with cancer, he transitioned into engineering full-time—quickly advancing through a traditional, skills-mastery-based department to become Assistant Chief Engineer. This foundation shaped his belief that great engineering begins with mentorship, collaboration, and mutual trust.
As Scripps embarked on an aggressive expansion effort, Phillip became a key resource in the rebuilding of several newly acquired stations. His work ultimately led him to KRIS-TV in Corpus Christi, where he supported a four-year modernization effort involving five transmitters, two tower replacements, complete studio and master control builds, and a full air-chain redesign. During this period, he began working closely with the Scripps corporate engineering team to develop unified media creation platforms and more efficient distribution workflows—early steps toward the group’s future digital transformation.
Phillip went on to serve as Director of Engineering in multiple markets, including Omaha and Corpus Christi, where he built highly engaged teams known for innovation, strong communication, and shared success. Under his leadership, the Corpus Christi stations completed numerous major technical upgrades, launched group-wide initiatives, and became early adopters of new automation platforms. His commitment to culture and team development has been recognized as one of his signature strengths.
Most recently, Phillip served as Director of Engineering and Strategy for Scripps Media, advising 37 markets on newsroom, production, and master control workflows while helping shape the company’s broader digital-forward strategy. His work included key initiatives in disaster recovery, cloud-based control rooms, modular digital workflows, and next-generation news automation systems. In recognition of his contributions, Phillip received the 2024 TAB George Marti Award for Engineering Excellence and the 2023 Broadcasting & Cable Unsung Hero Award.
Phillip brings a rare combination of operational experience, technological vision, and people-centered leadership. Throughout his career, his core belief has remained constant: when engineering teams feel empowered, respected, and inspired, they create solutions that elevate the entire organization.
